Hallo guys,

I just had a quick thought about OneCanvas and what would inprove the forum. And the one thing I really miss here is a classing sub forum. To find what your skill level is.

Also a new award would be nice in the case thats get approved, a "offical classer" or something like that, so thats someone whit a respected opinion and knows were he talks about but everyone shut be able to class other people.

Most used classes:

-Beginner
-Novice
-Moderate
-Intermediate
-Semi-Pro
-Pro

Cheers,

This has been suggested before actually:

http://onecanvas.net...uggested-ideas/

http://onecanvas.net...c/606-classing/

And well generally it can be a very bad idea because it demotivates (some people) If you class them as "novice" or "noob" because they might interpetrate you saying that they are bad. so the won't bother to get better.

But probably something worse about this is that it creates competitions between members wich can/will lead to fights between 2 members, and people thinking they are better then the other and thus looking down on them and laugh at their art cuz they are classed better.

So imo the "pro awards" are more then enough.

I hope I explained it well enough

to the negative thinker.

It has to be a class to a class.

Example :

if someone make and focus more to photography, and he is pro in photograph , should he receive pro award? I think.... no. he shouldn't. It's because he just pro in photograph. not all. <- that's the problem. Unless , you can think the solution..

that will fall on the "classer"

the classer will be also classified by their own forte, BUT in some case that will fall on general category,

for example, a piece. its either a photography or a tag, it will be classified by the outcome, or how it looks, BUT if the classer itself is PRO in that category he can categorized more of the artwork, or somewhat in depth review of the piece.

My stance was stated here. I've not really changed. http://onecanvas.net...sing/#entry5242

Any form of classing should be about the art not the artist themselves.

We further get into the issue of what if the 'classer' doesn't like a particular style of work? Say someone hate smudges and keeps Maid as a 'noob' because Maids forte is smudging... Art is what's important. Criticizing the person and their style is not.

"art is what's important. criticizing the person and their style is not"

-Moo

and that aside, we doesnt share the same taste in art, so what looks good on me , will be bad at you

and i think to prevent that maybe an in depth Cnc will do like

FLOW-

DEPTH-

BLENDING-

COMPOSITION-

TEXT-

in this way we can point out your best quality and the area you miss/lacking.

Thats why I suggested something like a award for people who can class objectively and not depending on what style he likes. and what emjhei says, style doesnt really matter. Flow, depht etc are the things were a good classer looks for

The problem with this is finding people who can objectively look at art, and then making sure that people don't get butthurt over the opinions of others. Because at the end of the day their just opinions. You can give CnC as much as you want, but you may never see eye-to-eye with a person, and because of that drama ensues. It's just a vicious cycle. One person feels cheated, and then others start to question their rankings as well, eventually, no one wants to be ranked anymore.

The classing/ranking system only really works when you have a community of mature, experienced artists. Eventually, OC will grow and become a community like that, but at the moment, OC is still a community of noobs, made by the biggest noob of all.

It's good that you brought this up again though. Some things should be brought up again down the road, because this community will mature.

Baka said no to a "Battle Section" a while back, but now it's possible that we may have one (since I'm bribing him with cookies).

He'll read that last part... eventually :P
